Yellow thunderstorm warning issued for parts of England and Wales

Date:

A thunderstorm warning has been issued by the Met Office, with the possibility of sudden flooding and travel disruption later today.

The yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of southwest England, Wales and the west Midlands, and will be in place from 1pm to 8pm on Saturday.

Slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to flooding and disruption in some areas, with the Met Office warning of “difficult driving conditions” and road closures, as well as cancellations to train and bus services.

Some areas in the UK could see up to 30mm of rain fall in an hour or two.

There is the possibility that some communities will be temporarily cut off by flooded roads, the Met Office added

Up to 30 areas in the UK will be impacted, including Bath, Cornwall and Dorset in southwest England, Cardiff, Newport and Swansea in Wales, and Herefordshire and Shropshire in the west Midlands.

Those planning to travel in impacted areas are advised to check road conditions before setting out.

Any showers and thunderstorms will gradually fade during Saturday evening, and much of the country will see no rain at all on Saturday, the forecaster added.
