The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is delighted to announce a new partnership with sustainable travel specialists ‘You. Smart. Thing.’

‘You. Smart. Thing.’ (YST) specialises in tailored travel plans, enabling organisations to offer content-enhanced wayfinding and curated low-carbon, door-to-door routes that nudge visitors towards net-zero travel.

As part of the partnership, WSA Members will be able to utilise YST services with a 10% discount.

To date, ‘You. Smart. Thing.’ has delivered over five million personal low-carbon travel plans, having worked with notable organisations including Transport for Greater Manchester, West Midlands Combined Authority, and Transport for Wales on large-scale major events as well as day-to-day travel.

Deployments for the Rugby League World Cup, Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, All England Lawn Tennis Club, and Manchester City Football Club have begun to redefine travel planning as a key tool for delivering world-class visitor experiences. The service catalyses multi-agency collaboration centred around participants’ and fans’ itineraries, leveraging early travel demand insight to ensure safe, secure transit and logistics management whilst reducing the events’ overall carbon footprint.

Through their innovative travel assistant solution, YST averages a 30% decrease in visitor CO2e by influencing modal choice.

The WSA is thrilled to collaborate with ‘You. Smart. Thing.’ on the WSA Sustainability in Sport Conference taking place this November.

As well as sitting on a panel discussion, YST will play a key role pre-event.

All attendees at the Conference will be able to experience the innovative solution with a personalised travel plan to the event. Using a postcode or current location, the service will enable WSA to offer delegates their most efficient and sustainable individual journeys to Newport’s Riverfront Theatre.

Delegates simply provide their postcode when registering for the event, and ‘You. Smart. Thing.’ does the rest before we email personalised travel plan prior to the Conference!

We are excited to be able to offer this solution to delegates, as we aim for a minimum of 90% of attendees travelling to the event by public transport.

WSA CEO, Andrew Howard, commented:

“The WSA is thrilled to welcome our new partnership with ‘You. Smart. Thing.’

“As the membership body for the sport and leisure sector in Wales, we understand the importance of setting an example off the field, and this collaboration reflects our deep commitment to sustainability. By joining forces, we aim to reduce our environmental impact and offer our member organisations’ fans and participants greener and more responsible travel solutions.

“Together, we are not just moving forward in sport, but also in building a more sustainable future for our communities in Wales and beyond.”

‘You. Smart. Thing.’ CEO, Chris Thompson, who will partake in a panel discussion at the Conference, added:

“Host cities, sports federations, and event organisers need to foster a collaborative approach to ensuring the sector supports future generations by mitigating environmental impact. Travel presents the greatest challenge. This means championing best practice in sustainable travel amongst participants and fans. Through this collaboration WSA is taking an exemplary position.”
