Sports clubs across Wales are feeling the benefits of the Energy Saving Grant. In 2023, Sport Wales awarded nearly £1.4m to 79 different clubs – and already, they’re seeing a difference.
But don’t just take our word for it! Here are some of their experiences and advice on using an Energy Saving Grant.
St Asaph Cricket Club
St Asaph Cricket Club are reaping the rewards of their £7,323 grant which was used to purchase battery storage facilities for their solar panels. With these improvements, they can save up the excess solar energy and sell it back to the grid.
Gareth Williams said: “The project has already seen the club achieve a significant reduction in our monthly running costs in addition to also helping us to have a compensating reduction in our carbon footprint.
“The financial cost savings has allowed the Club to meet other ‘cost of living’ expenses as well as allowing us to re-invest into our playing and social facilities. For example, we hope to part fund the costs of a new bowling machine and feeder through our energy savings realised.”
Giants Grave Boys & Girls Club
Giants Grave Boys & Girls Club in Neath can focus on delivering in their community and put rising costs to the back of their mind after receiving £22,902 for solar panels.
Chris McKenzie said :“This Energy Saving Grant has protected the future of our club and now we can focus on the needs of young people again without worrying about increasing energy costs every year.”
