West Wales Sports Partnership joins WSA as Associate Member
The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) is delighted to welcome West Wales Sports Partnership to the membership base as an Associate Member.
This comes following the arrival of Actif North Wales, another of Wales’ regional physical activity and sports partnerships, as a WSA Member at the end of last year.
Five areas in Wales make up the nation’s Sport Partnerships, striving to improve health and wellbeing across Welsh communities.
These partnerships are new, purposely set up regional entities that will provide strategic leadership, planning and commissioning for sport and physical activity within their areas.
Incorporated as a limited company by guarantee in September 2023, West Wales Sports Partnership was the second region to have successfully established a Sport Partnership.
Its creation is a commitment to making communities across the region healthier and happier through physical activity, as well as a significant milestone in the cross-sector effort to change the way that sport and physical activity opportunities for communities across Wales are delivered.
Already, there is strong sense of collaboration across the West, with the local authorities, regional professional sports clubs, and further and higher education coming together to govern the Sports Partnership through a non-executive board.
Dr Sue Barnes is the organisation’s Chair and has previously stated:
“We have a fantastic opportunity to work with communities and organisations across West Wales so that we can dramatically improve health and wellbeing through the enjoyment of sport and being active.
“This is the first time an organisation like this has been created for West Wales and it’s an opportunity we need to seize. Community sport has so much potential in improving society as a whole and I firmly believe that by working together as a region, we can make a significant impact.”
Jamie Rewbridge, CEO of the West Wales Sports Partnership, commented upon joining the WSA:
“We are delighted to have joined the WSA. The networks, resources and support that this highly regarded organisation will provide will be invaluable to our organisation as we build, grow and learn, ensuring we deliver improved outcomes through sport and physical activity for West Wales.
“We are keen to engage with as many partners that can help us shape and drive forward our vision, mission and goals, and we are really excited to become a part of it.”
WSA CEO, Andrew Howard, added:
