DRAGONS RFC back-rower Ollie Griffiths has been diagnosed with a tumour on his spine, ruling the 29-year-old out of action indefinitely as he undergoes medical treatment.
Griffiths, who has been capped once by Wales, is currently receiving treatment, which is being reviewed on a monthly basis. The Dragons have expressed their commitment to supporting him throughout his treatment, with a club statement reading: “Our sole concern is his health and the privacy of him and his family at this time. Any further updates on Ollie’s progress will come via official channels and only with his approval. The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Despite his undoubted talent, Griffiths has been hampered by injuries throughout his career, limiting his international appearances to just one senior cap, which he earned on Wales’ 2017 tour of Tonga and Samoa. However, the back-rower has been a key figure for the Dragons, making 105 appearances for the Men of Gwent and establishing himself as one of the club’s most consistent performers.
Known for his physicality and relentless work rate, Griffiths is equally effective at carrying the ball as he is at winning turnovers at the breakdown. His absence will be keenly felt by both the Dragons and their supporters, as the player faces an uncertain road ahead in his recovery.
The rugby community has rallied around Griffiths, with the focus now firmly on ensuring he receives the best possible care during this challenging time.
