Wales international Freddie Thomas has signed a new deal at Gloucester as he looks to kick on after making his Test bow against South Africa late last year.
The 23-year-old put pen to paper on the contract extension before his recent international debut against the Springboks, meaning that he can continue to represent Wales.
Thomas, who is a Gloucester Rugby Academy graduate, is one of several young players to establish himself in the first team under director of rugby George Skivington.
Loving his rugby
The forward is able to cover both second-row and back-row and has amassed 50 appearances for the Premiership club since his debut against French side Lyon in 2020.
“I’m thrilled to sign a new deal with my home club,” said the Wales lock.
“Skivs and the coaching staff here have put a lot of time and effort into my development. I’m loving my rugby at the moment and I’m just trying to keep working hard to develop my game and get better.
“We’ve come a long way as a team and there’s still more to come from us, I’m really excited to be part of the journey.”
Skivington revealed his delight at wrapping up the young lock’s future and is hugely excited about how far Thomas can progress as a Cherry and Whites player.
“We’re really happy to secure Freddie’s services moving forward,” he said.
Home-grown player
“Part of our ethos here is to develop home-grown lads into regular first-team players and internationals, Freddie is a great example of that.
“He’s already an established face in the squad at a young age, and he’s only got further developing to do, so that’s exciting.”
