UK beach one of Europe’s best that looks like California’s Golden Coast

Date:

Boasting eight miles of sandy beach, Cefn Sidan Beach in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, Wales, has been hailed as a “hidden gem”, drawing comparisons to some of the best beaches in Europe and even the USA.

This stunning Welsh beach, one of the longest and most beautiful in the country, offers soft golden sands and breathtaking views of the Bristol Channel.

It’s even been likened to Californian beaches such as the golden coast, according to Pembrey County Park and Beach.

Cefn Sidan was the first beach in Wales to receive the prestigious blue flag award.

As part of Pembrey Country Park, it’s an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts who can explore nearby woodlands, sand dunes, and coastal paths.

Whether you’re keen on hiking, cycling, or simply strolling along the coast, this beach has it all.

West Wales Holiday Cottages has previously described it as one of “Europe’s best beaches”, and with its spectacular views, it’s easy to see why.

But there’s more to Cefn Sidan than just its long stretches of sand.

The beach also features a gentle slope and shallow waters, making it perfect for paddling and beachcombing, reports Wales Online.

Whether you’re planning a family day out or a romantic stroll, this beach is an ideal destination.

And with its picture-perfect scenery, it’s certainly worth capturing on camera if you’re paying a visit.

Cefn Sidan boasts a name that translates to “silken back,” a nod to its smooth, fine sands that beckon for leisurely strolls or a day basking in the sun.

The beach immediately impresses visitors with its vast stretch of sand, so expansive that it’s even accommodated the landing of planes, including a Royal Air Force Lockheed C-130J ‘Super Hercules’ amidst tactical drills on the public sands.

The charms of Cefn Sidan extend beyond its beauty; it’s woven with history, hosting shipwreck remnants along its expanse that date back centuries.

These historical artifacts from the area’s seafaring heritage contribute an element of enigma to the picturesque setting, attracting many visitors seeking to photograph them.

Commenting on the allure of the beach, Visit Wales highlights on their website: “The extensive flat sandy beach lends itself to a wide range of activities, swimming, fishing and kayaking take place in zoned areas and the beach also hosts sandcastle competitions and parakarting and sand yachting events. Refreshments and shops are available nearby.

“There are clear panoramic views across Carmarthen Bay to the Gower and Carmarthenshire coast. You can still see the remains of the hull of the SS Paul when the tide is out.

“There is a charge for vehicles to gain access to the beach through the country park although it is free for pedestrians and bikes.

“The dunes and surrounding area are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and include a number of walking trails.

“Cyclists and pedestrians can use the Millennium Coastal Path / Celtic Trail to access the Park from Llanelli and Burry Port.”
