The UK’s paradise beach with golden sands that could be mistaken for Thailand

Date:

Wales, with its stunning coastline, is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Tourist favourites like North Beach in Tenby and Abersoch Beach on the Llyn Peninsula are sure to leave visitors spellbound.

However, there are hidden gems that remain relatively undiscovered. Just a 15-minute drive from Tenby, perched atop a cliff, lies a car park, visitor centre and youth hostel.

Located a few miles from Manobier Castle and along the Welsh Coastal Path, this spot offers access to a breathtaking beach via a short but steep set of steps. The journey may not be the easiest, but within ten minutes, you’ll find yourself in a paradise-like setting.

At the end of these steps, you’ll discover Church Doors Cove, a small pebbly beach nestled between towering cliffs. Its name comes from a unique rock formation – a large rectangular cut-out that resembles a pair of church doors.

While Church Doors Cove is a sight to behold, it’s just the beginning. Around the corner, or through a cave walkway, lies the even more spectacular Skrinkle Haven Beach, reports Wales Online.

However, visitors should note that access to Skrinkle Haven is tide-dependent and can only be reached when the tide is out.

Visitors to Church Doors Cove are being warned that the journey to Skrinkle Haven can be treacherous due to the risk of being stranded by the incoming tide. It’s crucial to only venture to Skrinkle Haven when the tide is sufficiently low, and return to Church Doors Cove as the tide begins to rise.

The beach is a haven for surfers, boasting pristine golden sands in contrast to its pebbly neighbour. The grass-topped cliffs and caves create an idyllic setting that could easily be mistaken for a tropical Thai island rather than a Welsh coastline.

For many years, public access to the beach was restricted due to its proximity to an RAF firing range. Today, it’s recognised as an ecological gem, with its stunning limestone and red stone cliffs providing sanctuary for a diverse range of local wildlife.

While amenities such as toilets or ice cream vans may be absent in this part of west Wales, it’s an ideal spot for a family adventure. The cliffside caves will captivate curious children, while the tranquil beach provides a serene retreat for adults.

With powerful waves breaking against the soft sandy shore, it’s also a prime location for surfers and bodyboarders.

If the descent proves too daunting, you can still marvel at the stunning views of both Church Doors Cove and Skrinkle Haven Beach from the cliff top. However, if you decide to venture from Church Doors Cove to Skrinkle Haven, it’s crucial to check the tide times in advance and keep a close eye on the returning tide to avoid getting stranded.
