The fairytale town on the border of Wales and England that barely anyone visits

A pretty little town is known for its historic style and beautiful surrounding countryside – and it’s a great place for an autumn day out.

The beautiful town of Shrewsbury isn’t visited nearly enough for the unique experience it offers. Featured in thetravel.com’s list of the UK’s least visited cities worth visiting, Shrewsbury in Shropshire has plenty to offer for people wanting a day out in the UK.

A popular place to visit in the area is Attingham Park. This 18th-century estate is open for all seasons with 200 acres of parkland and Regency Mansion and visitors love it. 

One guest on Tripadvisor said: “My family enjoyed the open walks, through the wonderful grounds, we walked around the amazing house and then relaxed in the park area with refreshments from the outdoor eating unit. I highly recommend for a lovely day out with friends and family.”

Another place worth visiting is the Market Hall in Shrewsbury, known for its vintage style, the market is a favourite for many. One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “I love the Market Hall in Shrewsbury.

“It has been voted Britain’s favourite market for the second year running. There’s a wonderful mix of traditional and modern, and all the independent stalls offer something different. 

“I love the fruit and veg, the Indian street food, the second hand bookshop, the arts, the clothes, the household goods, the butchers, the bakers …

“It’s also a place I go to simply soak up the atmosphere and enjoy being there. There are also coffee shops and restaurants. The Market Hall just about has it all!”

Shrewsbury is known for its quaint style, it has several distinctive churches and a beautiful riverside parkland known as Quarry Park. 

According to Rightmove, properties in Shrewsbury are also relatively affordable – with an overall average price of £295,122 over the last year. The average property price in the UK is currently £292,924.

Prices were similar to the previous year and 5% up on the 2021 peak of £280,251.
