Techniquest takes Flight this Summer

Date:

Techniquest, the science discovery centre in Cardiff Bay, is kicking off its school holiday season with a gravity-defying set of live science shows and workshops.

Focused on flight for every single day of the summer holidays, Techniquest will be delivering live science show ‘Skybound’ in its purpose-built Science Theatre, taking audiences on a journey skywards. With plenty of audience participation and some fun demos thrown in, guests will discover fascinating facts about flying alongside a good dose of humour from the live science host presenters.

For older children, those aged nine and above, the 45-minute ‘Air & Flare’ workshop in the KLA Lab provides the opportunity to create tiny tornadoes and mini volcanos as well as exploring some of the ways air acts under pressure to make things fly.

In the Planetarium, visitors can travel the galaxies on a Star Tour, or watch a 360° film that captures the Earth from space in a series of satellite images, to better understand the impact of climate change on our amazing planet.

Gareth McTiffin, Head of Commercial Operations at Techniquest, said:

“Once schools break up, it’s a time when many people are taking to the skies to jet off on their holidays, so this year we’ve decided to bring the wonders of flight alive for our guests here — with the advantage of no long security queues! Instead you can enjoy all or our hands-on exhibits and learn about the science of flight in our live science shows and lab workshops.

“We always look forward to the summer holidays here; we have so many families discovering us for the first time, as well as welcoming back those who’ve been regulars for many years.”

Techniquest is open from 10am to 5pm seven days a week throughout the summer holidays, and each activity referenced must be added on to general admission tickets, available through the website: techniquest.org.
