Tata Steel UK Launches Next Phase of Consultation on Proposed Electric Arc Furnace at Port Talbot Steelworks

Date:

Tata Steel UK has launched the next consultation phase on its proposal to build an Electric Arc Furnace at its Port Talbot steelworks.

The pre-application consultation will run for 28 days until 15 October. Tata Steel has published dozens of draft application documents online which can be viewed at: http://greensteelfuture.com/planning.

The company started sharing details of its planning application with its local community at events this summer. It said it intends to submit a planning application in November to Neath Port Talbot Council to construct the Electric Arc Furnace.

Tata Steel announced earlier in September that it had signed a grant funding agreement with the UK Government allowing it to proceed at pace with the project to build the Electric Arc Furnace as part of a £1.25 billion investment.

Rajesh Nair, CEO of Tata Steel UK, said:

“We’re grateful to everyone who has taken the opportunity through our engagement so far to provide feedback. It was useful to speak to local residents at our community events about their views of the proposed scheme and the benefits it would deliver.

“I encourage anyone with questions or comments to get in touch so they can be considered by the project team.”

Members of the public are invited to share any questions and feedback with the company via email at contact@EAFcommunications.com or by writing to:
