Transport for Wales (TfW) has launched a new menu of dog treats, which it believes is the first on the UK rail network.
The operator points to the increasing popularity of dog-friendly destinations in Wales and the Borders, among the many attractions that its network serves, and will now offer the treats on some of its services.
The treats will be available on Premier services between North and South Wales.
TfW operates ‘premier services’ with Mark IV trains, which will offer Dewkes dog treats between Swansea and Manchester and between Cardiff and Holyhead.
Having introduced at-seat ordering for human passengers on its Premier trains last year, TfW has now extended this to their canine companions.
Passengers will be able to scan a QR code on their seat and choose treats from the menu, and a TfW customer host will bring them.
TfW hopes that this initiative will improve the travel experience for dogs and their humans, and points out that all treats are made with high-quality, natural ingredients and all suitable for all types of dog.
The treats are provided by Dewkes Snack For Dogs, an award-winning, South-Wales-based, family-run company which packages the snacks in sustainable, recyclable materials.
The initiative has employed Duke (pictured) as its Brand Mascot and Quality Control Expert. Duke enjoyed his train journey through Mid Wales, eating the treats and posing for photographs.
“With so many beautiful parts of Wales and the Borders accessible by TfW Services we are delighted to welcome the whole family including the four legged members on board our trains. By stocking Dewkes snacks we are making sure that everyone is catered for.”
