TASTE TEST: Little Dessert Shop, Llandudno

Date:

Mostyn St

Llandudno

LL30 2PD

IT’S CLEAR to anyone who visits Llandudno, the town has a sweet tooth.

From ice cream parlours to dessert shops to souvenir shops selling sweet treats, Llandudno offers plenty of options if you like something naughty but nice.

So when I headed across there recently I took the opportunity to try the new kid on the block – the Little Dessert Shop next door to Clare’s on Mostyn Street.

True to its name, it’s only a small shop, with room for a couple of tables inside and a couple more outside – but as the saying goes, the best things come in small packages.

Browsing the glass counter the skill of the bakers and confectioners behind the Little Dessert Shop’s cakes was clear to see, but desserts are not for looking at.

I opted for the loftily-named A Taste of Heaven Cheesecake – a Kinder Bueno-flavoured cake with a Kinder Happy Hippo sitting proudly on top.

Honestly, as I dug in I was prepared for the disappointment that often comes with a shop-bought cheesecake over a restaurant one – a soft, soggy base that can barely be described as a biscuit.

However, the Tast of Heaven Cheesecake put a big smile on my face as it managed to combine a creamy, smooth topping with a crumbly, biscuity base that gave a satisfying snap under my spoon.

The taste too was well balanced – not too sweet and sickly like some similar-flavoured desserts. It was light and tasty and well worth the £5.50.
