A woman who is currently stuck onboard a ferry off the coast of Belfast has told Sky News she may not make it to a Christmas party she was due to attend tonight.
Eileen Roberts, 52, and her husband had flown to England yesterday and were due to return on a London to Belfast ferry last night.
This was then cancelled.
Stena Line then informed her she could take a 11.30pm ferry and she raced to Scotland to get the ferry.
But around two hours into the journey, the captain told passengers the ferry would not be docking as it was unsafe.
“I’m fine we’re just waiting to get into Belfast but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be anytime soon,” she said.
“The boat is stable but it does look choppy outside. During the night, it was pretty black and we couldn’t see what was going on and it was more unsettling.
“We can see outside now and yes it is rough out there but the ship itself is calm inside.”
Ms Roberts said she and her husband had a Christmas party to attend tonight but it was still unclear whether she was going to make it.
“We’ve got a family and friends party for tonight but I am not entirely sure if my husband and I will be able to make it,” she said.
“We might be spending the evening with the passengers onboard.”
Ms Roberts added that she did not expect to be on the vessel for this long.
She said: “I’ve only had one hours sleep, it’s just so uncomfortable.
“During the night it was actually quite scary but now it’s light it’s no so bad.”
