Storm Bert latest: At least four dead; hundreds of flood warnings and alerts remain across UK; boil water notices issued in Wales

Date:

Disruption caused by Storm Bert is set to continue into Monday as the full extent of its impact emerges.

Torrential downpours caused “devastating” flooding over the weekend, with homes left underwater, roads turned into rivers and winds of up to 82mph recorded.

While the majority of the weather warnings ran out at midnight on Sunday – with only one lasting until 10am on Monday – more than 200 flood alerts (flooding is possible) and over 150 flood warnings (flooding is expected) remain in place for England and Wales.

Travel issues are set to continue into the new week as well.

Forecast for Monday to Thursday:

Monday will see sunny spells and scattered showers, with the most frequent and even wintry in the North West.

The south could see heavy showers that bring a risk of hail and thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected to continue.

Storm Bert will finally clear on Tuesday, the Met Office says, but the risk of further rain and wind remains across the south of the UK on Tuesday night into Wednesday.

The north could see blustery showers across those two days as well.

Thursday could be briefly more settled under high pressure.

But looking further ahead, the Met Office says the country could see a return to colder, but drier, conditions for many.
