Date:

Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, recently visited a specialist dog training and detection company based in Mostyn.

Mr Rowlands, a dog lover and owner was delighted to spend some time at Wagtail UK’s School of Excellence and see the animals put through their paces.

He said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit Wagtail UK and meet with some of the people who work there and see for myself the services they offer.

“As a dog owner myself I found it fascinating to see how the animals are trained to detect and it was great to be able to watch them undergoing their training and hear all about the business.

“The company has an impressive international reputation working with government agencies and private clients in many different countries and I was particularly impressed with the set up at Mostyn Hall.

“It is also very pleasing to see such a successful business based here in North Wales.”

Wagtail UK is an international, multi-award winning company, which trains dogs to detect explosives, drugs, tobacco, cash, ‘live’ body detection, cadaver, disaster search/rescue, conservation and products of animal origin.

It was established in 2003 and provides detection dogs and related services for government agencies such as UK Border Force, HM Revenue & Customs, Police, Trading Standards and Armed Forces.

They currently have around 80 dogs that they have trained working with the border force in Calais, France and many more can be found at airports and with police forces.
