SAM ROWLANDS, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, has welcomed news that the thousands of jobs could be on the way to North-East Wales.
Last year, the UK Government pledged to support plans for an Investment Zone worth up to £160 million in North-East Wales which could create up to 6,000 jobs.
Mr Rowlands, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Finance, said: “It is great to hear that the planned zone will build on the success of the region’s advanced manufacturing sector and is expected to bring thousands of jobs to North Wales.
“It really is fantastic news and an extremely positive step for the area and for the future of Wrexham and Flintshire.
“We all know that there are endless opportunities for investment in North-East Wales, with our close proximity to the North West and links to Ireland and Europe. Let us hope the creation of this zone is just the beginning.”
The planned zone is a collaboration between Flintshire County Council, Wrexham County Borough Council, the North Wales Corporate Joint Committee, Welsh Government and UK Government.
The UK Government is making available flexible funding of £160m to help fund infrastructure development of the North Wales sites. There will also be money going towards improving local transport links.
There will also be tax and rate relief to help speed up the development.
