Record-breaking numbers were achieved at Swansea’s annual Student Shopping Night with a 30% uplift in attendees year-on-year, attracting nearly 4,000 student shoppers to the city centre.
Swansea’s Student Night is delivered in partnership between the Quadrant Shopping Centre, Swansea Business Improvement District (BID) and Swansea Council managed Swansea Market, and is designed to give students a memorable introduction to the City.
Over 60 retailers at stallholders offered up to 30% off on the night with over 50 bars, local businesses and musicians creating a thriving atmosphere across both shopping destinations.
Chief Executive of Swansea Business Improvement District, Russell Greenslade, said:
“This was a hugely successful night for the whole City Centre and was our busiest ever student shopping event. While we saw a 30% uplift compared with 2023’s event, there was an even bigger uplift of 50% when compared with 2022. This proves how important it is to offer our local students experience-led events which will elevate their time in Swansea, while also benefit local businesses.”
Jane White, company executive of Quadrant Shopping Centre owners, Centurion, said:
“It was incredible seeing the whole city come together to deliver such a successful event, and seeing the rise in consumer confidence with all retailers experiencing sale uplifts year-on-year. As the key City Centre shopping destination, we were particularly proud to be at the heart of the event, providing a space for local businesses across leisure, food, and beverage to showcase everything they have to offer.”
Councillor David Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services & Performance at Swansea Council, said:
“Swansea Market has always held a special place within the City Centre and will continue to do so for many years to come, as we welcome more and more young shoppers. Over the last few years, we’ve seen the Market’s popularity grow with students and younger shoppers, with the high quality and varied food offer being particularly attractive to them. We know that the Student Shopping event acts as an excellent catalyst for repeat visits and our traders look forward to continuing to serve students throughout their time at university and beyond.”
