The Princess of Wales is co-hosting her first state visit since making a gradual return to royal duties after cancer treatment, and she tapped into one of this autumn/winter’s biggest fashion trends for the occasion.
Kate fully committed to the colour of the season for her typically chic look on Tuesday 3 December, wearing a head-to-toe burgundy ensemble consisting of a sleek coat dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, knee-high boots and a matching headpiece, bag and gloves.
She was joined by the Prince of Wales and King Charles for a carriage procession along London’s Mall with the visiting Qatari royals, ending at Buckingham Palace for a private lunch. The guests will then be given a tour of the Houses of Parliament, with the day’s events culminating in a state banquet this evening.
Queen Camilla has been forced to miss the outdoor parts of the visit as she continues to recover from a chest infection, but she is believed to be joining for the rest of the schedule. Kate, however, will not attend the banquet, as she is understandably taking things slowly after ending her course of chemotherapy in September.
Qatar’s flag is maroon with a white serrated band, so the princess’ all-burgundy outfit is most likely a diplomatic nod to that. Her beautiful pearl and diamond jewellery was part of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s private collection.
Kate has only appeared in public for a small handful of events this year, including Trooping the Colour in June, the Wimbledon Men’s Final in July and the Remembrance Day service last month. We’re very pleased to have her back and look forward to hopefully seeing much more of her in 2025.
