Merthyr Town Football Club is delighted to announce the launch of their partnership with the UK’s largest healthcare charity, Nuffield Health.

This initiative is set to have a hugely beneficial effect on the quality of life of players, and therefore on the fans, of the Pendarren Park based club.

From 1 August 2024 Nuffield Health Cardiff and Vale Hospitals became the Merthyr Town FC Official Healthcare Supplier, with professional players being given access to Nuffield Health’s first-class healthcare in South Wales. Initially for two seasons the partnership provides the Martyrs with access to medical support, as well as players being given discounted membership for them at Nuffield Health’s well-being and fitness facilities in Bridgend and Cwmbran, to keep them fit for life, sport and work.

Merthyr Town Football Club’s volunteer Sponsorship Manager and Board Member, Steve Barnes, welcomed the partnership, saying:

“This is hugely welcome news for fans and for the Martyrs, giving our players access to the Nuffield Health top class healthcare facilities in Cardiff and the Vale Hospitals, which we hope will help us to attract and keep the players fit, strong and healthy and ready to perform at their best for the Club. We’re excited for the future of this hugely beneficial partnership to assist with preventing and treating injuries. We are fan owned, welcoming and community based. As fans involving three generations of my family, I appreciate our mission being to support the whole community and this is one of our ambitious and progressive plans to do just that.”

Local resident and Health System Director Melanie Webber Maybank at Nuffield Health said:

“We are thrilled that the Merthyr Town FC are teaming up with our healthcare services, renowned for expert clinicians in sports injuries to provide players with a range of benefits and access to our services. It is so important to support local clubs and give back to sports professionals and this aligns with our purpose to build a healthier nation. We are very pleased to extend our support by offering access to our premier diagnostics, state-of-the-art surgical facilities and expert teams, particularly sports injuries, robotic joint replacement and our All Wales Eye Centre. We wish them all the very best for the upcoming season.”
