On His Majesty’s secret service: Prince William makes a private trip to MI6 headquarters

Date:

So whatever William was up to, it must have been pretty important. He is, of course, no stranger to working with the nation’s intelligence services. Back in 2019, Kensington Palace revealed that Prince William, then the Duke of Cambridge, completed a three-week internship alongside Britain’s top spies at MI5, MI6, and GCHQ. His tasks? Monitoring extreme Islamist terror cells, identifying potential threats abroad, and observing cutting-edge code breaking technology.

A Telegraph article published at the time led with the tantalising tidbit that Prince William ‘worked actively in the field’ during his time with international agents at MI6. A tough task for any disguise designers, or perhaps a significantly load-bearing fake moustache.

‘Spending time inside our security and intelligence agencies, understanding more about the vital contribution they make to our national security, was a truly humbling experience,’ he said in a statement after the secondment was made public. ‘These agencies are full of people from everyday backgrounds doing the most extraordinary work to keep us safe,’ he continued.

‘They work in secret, often not even able to tell their family and friends about the work they do or the stresses they face. They are driven by unrivalled patriotism and dedication to upholding the values of this country.’
