New South Wales (NSW) anticipates a substantial surge in Indian visitors in 2024, fueled by enhanced flight connections, easier visa processes, and rising disposable incomes. The state experienced a 109% growth in Indian tourist expenditures in 2023.
Mumbai, August 16 (PTI) – New South Wales (NSW) is set to experience a significant rise in tourist numbers from India this year, thanks to the increasing availability of direct flights between Sydney and various Indian cities. The ease of travel has been further enhanced by the seamless e-visa application process, which has simplified visa approvals for Indian travelers. This combination of factors is expected to contribute to a robust double-digit growth in the influx of Indian tourists to NSW in the coming months.
The Australian state is strategically positioning itself to attract more Indian visitors, recognizing the importance of improved air connectivity and streamlined visa procedures in driving tourism growth. By offering more direct flight options and simplifying the visa process, NSW is making it easier and more appealing for Indian tourists to explore the state’s diverse attractions. As a result, NSW is optimistic about achieving a substantial increase in Indian tourist arrivals within this calendar year.
NSW saw a remarkable influx of 3.4 million international visitors, reflecting a 104 percent rise from the pre-COVID levels of 2019, he remarked. This significant growth underscores the state’s recovery and appeal in the post-pandemic era.
Drawing from the International Visitor Survey by Tourism Research Australia, Chokshi highlighted that in 2023, Indian tourists spent a total of 7 million nights in NSW. Their presence made a substantial economic impact, contributing AUD 482.2 million to the state’s economy, which represents a 109 percent surge in expenditure compared to 2019. This data underscores the increasing significance of Indian travelers to NSW’s tourism sector.
In 2023, the leading five countries in terms of visitor spending in New South Wales (NSW) were the USA, New Zealand, the UK, China, and South Korea, according to Chokshi. Additionally, New Zealand, China, the USA, the UK, and South Korea emerged as the top source markets for tourist arrivals in the state.
Regarding air connectivity, New Delhi and Sydney are currently linked by a daily direct flight, facilitating seamless travel between the two major cities. This route plays a pivotal role in enhancing accessibility for travelers, providing a convenient option for those journeying between India and Australia.
Additionally, Qantas has further strengthened the connection by offering direct flights between Bengaluru and Sydney, available five days a week. This service not only broadens the travel options for passengers from Southern India but also underscores the growing importance of Bengaluru as a significant hub for international travel to Australia. These flight routes are crucial in supporting the increasing flow of tourists and business travelers between the two nations, contributing to the overall growth of bilateral relations and tourism.
