The Sandfields Community Group in Port Talbot has received a £1,000 donation from local housebuilder Persimmon Homes West Wales.
The funds have been used to purchase a container for the local Library Group, which is leading on a community garden project. This container will provide much-needed storage for tools and materials, supporting the group’s ongoing efforts to create a vibrant green space for residents.
The donation comes from Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme, which donates over £48,000 each year to good causes and commendable organisations across Wales.
The cheque was presented to the Sandfields Community Group in the presence of local councillor, Cllr Sean Pursey of Sandfields East Division.
Cllr Sean Pursey, said:
“I’m delighted that Persimmon Homes West Wales has chosen to support the Sandfields Community Group for this project.
“This funding will make a significant difference, allowing the group to enhance their community garden at Sandfields Library, which is to become a focal point for local residents, to tackle isolation and loneliness.
“Persimmon have supported a number of local community projects in the area and this has been very much appreciated.”
Sharon Bouhali, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes West Wales, highlighted the importance of community involvement, and said:
“Empowering and supporting communities is at the heart of what we do at Persimmon.
“Our Community Champions scheme is a way for us to give back and support grassroots organisations that are making a real difference where we develop.
“The Sandfields Community Group’s garden project is a fantastic initiative, and we’re proud to support their efforts to create a green, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.”
The Sandfields Community Group’s garden project aims to bring together residents of all ages, providing a place for people to come together, learn new skills, and enjoy the outdoors. The new container will provide secure storage for gardening tools and materials, enabling the group to expand their activities and involve more people from the community.
