Kate Middleton is finished with her chemotherapy treatment. On Monday, the Princess of Wales shared a video of herself with Prince William and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, revealing the health update.
“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” she says in the video. “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown.”
“The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she adds. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”
The video posted shows Middleton walking through a green forest with her family, under the trees and in the greenery. In the voiceover, Middleton shares how the difficult several months allowed her and Prince William to “be grateful” for things they once took for granted, including their love.
“Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus,” she continues, sharing that she will be participating in several more public events in the next few months. (She made several public appearances this summer, including at Wimbledon and a parade for the King Charles’ birthday.) “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
Middleton thanked people for their support during this time, saying that she’s drawn “great strength” from the messages of love. She also shared her support for people battling cancer now, writing: “Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”
“Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life,” she continues in the clip.
Middleton announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer in late March, several months after being sent to the hospital for abdominal surgery. She was out of the public eye for several weeks, sending fans to theorize about her health.
“This of course came as a huge shock,” Middleton said at the time. “And William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”
