St David’s Hospice Care in Newport has been presented with a donation of £1,000 from Persimmon Homes East Wales as part of their Community Champions initiative.
Representatives from both the charity and the developer were joined by Cllr Jane Mudd, who represents the Malpas ward where the hospice is located, for the cheque presentation.
The housebuilder’s £1,000 donation will go towards funding a new vein scanner for the hospice’s in-patient unit.
St David’s Hospice Care offers vital palliative care to patients, families, and carers facing life-limiting illnesses, delivering expert pain management and symptom relief.
Care is provided both at home and in their purpose-built in-patient hospice, ensuring that patients receive support tailored to their needs. Services are free of charge and designed to enhance the quality of life for patients during challenging times.
From humble beginnings caring for just six patients in its first year, St David’s Hospice Care has grown to become one of the largest hospice-at-home care providers in the UK, now supporting over 3,400 patients annually across South East Wales, including Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen, Monmouthshire, and parts of Powys.
Persimmon Homes East Wales contributes £24,000 annually to local community initiatives through their Community Champions scheme. The recent donation to St David’s Hospice Care underscores the company’s commitment to supporting essential services in the areas where it develops.
Abi Hughes, Community Fundraiser at St David’s Hospice Care, said:
“We’re incredibly thankful to Persimmon Homes for their generous support.
“This £1,000 donation will make a real impact in helping to fund a new vein scanner for our IPU, supporting us to provide the high-quality, compassionate care that patients and families rely on.
“Support from community partners like Persimmon is invaluable in enabling us to continue our mission.”
Victoria Williams, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said:
“Our Community Champions programme is designed to uplift local organisations across East Wales where we develop that make a difference to the lives of local people.
“With our Springfield Meadows development in Llanwern, St David’s Hospice Care is a perfect example of an organisation doing so much good in the local community.
“As a prominent local business we are delighted to be able to provide some much-needed funds to help their crucial endeavours supporting patients and families locally.”
Cllr Jane Mudd – who is also the Police & Crime Commissioner for Gwent Police – added:
“The hospice has a special place in my heart and the local community, so we’re all thrilled with Persimmon’s donation. This will help the hospice to continue their excellent work which I know is so highly valued.”
Persimmon’s presence in Newport is located at the Springfield Meadows development at Glan Llyn. The development also includes a partnership with Pobl Group to provide 18 homes for social housing. The project is part of the £1bn Glan Llyn regeneration project by St. Modwen, transforming the former Llanwern Steelworks site into a vibrant residential and business community.
