This National Tree Planting Week (26 November), Barratt David Wilson Homes South Wales has pledged to donate a significant number of trees and saplings to Coed Caerdydd — a 10-year programme supporting the city’s One Planet climate change strategy, one tree at a time.
What’s more, the local housebuilder’s team members have also contributed some of its 334 hours’ volunteering for 2024 to the charity — planting, watering and weeding in the name of growing Cardiff’s tree population.
Every year, trees remove around 10.5% of all pollutants emitted by Cardiff’s traffic — including 7,900 tonnes of carbon, which equates to the annual emissions of some 14,000 cars.
Lewis Allwood, Charity Champion for Barratt David Wilson Homes South Wales, said: “As a housebuilder, we understand more than most the importance of tree planting for both wildlife and communities — having created the equivalent of 17 football pitches worth of green spaces this year ourselves.
“Combined with our sustainable building practices, we hope our donation and volunteering efforts with Coed Caerdydd will make a real difference in improving the biodiversity and wellbeing of the communities we’re building in.”
