British Heart Foundation (BHF) Cymru has launched a new event to cater for cardiovascular healthcare professionals in Wales.

The charity was joined by more than 80 healthcare professionals from across the sector at Techniquest in Cardiff to discuss cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Wales.

The first ever BHF Cymru CVD Healthcare Professionals Conference aimed to showcase best practice of cardiology in Wales. Contributors from NHS Wales, Cardiff Met, Cwmpas and ESC Association of Cardiovascular Nursing provided analysis of a breadth of topics, including primary care, cardiac rehabilitation, heart failure and cardiovascular research, which informed a number of panel discussions. The conference also heard from speakers across the UK, who provided insights into challenges facing each of the four UK nations.

Hassan Al-Kaabi, Health and Care Lead at BHF Cymru, said:

“We were delighted to bring so many people together for our first Health Conference in Wales. It’s great to provide an opportunity for our healthcare professionals to network, and we hope this event can continue to grow in support each year. It’s been a great day of learning, and I’ve certainly enjoyed hearing from our speakers to learn more about different areas of the cardiology ‘pathway’.”

Rhodri Thomas, Head of BHF Cymru, added:

“With around 340,000 people across Wales living with heart and circulatory disease, it is vital that we make calls for collaboration across the health sector and work together to improve outcomes for everyone affected by cardiovascular conditions. Events like today support our mission to save and improve the lives of people affected by cardiovascular disease.”
