Welsh sports clubs that have been affected by recent storm damage can apply for grants up to £5,000 to help them recover.
Sport Wales has launched a temporary Storm Damage Fund – using Welsh Government money – after many sports facilities across the country suffered from the impact of recent storms.
Clubs only have a short window in which to apply for the grants which range from a minimum £300 up to a maximum £5,000. Applications open at 9am on Tuesday 10 December 2024 and close one week later at 4pm on Tuesday 17 December 2024.
The grants can be used to help with costs covering repairs to facilities, clubhouses, fixtures and fittings, flooring, furniture, infrastructure, equipment, pitch works, utilities repair, replacing white goods and cleaning costs.
Owen Hathway, Sport Wales’ Assistant Director for Insight, Policy and Public Affairs, said: “We want to support clubs who have been hit badly by the recent storms. Severe weather has a massive impact on people’s ability to take part in sport, so we’re pleased to help clubs recover.
“All applicants will need to provide evidence of the damage their club has sustained. As long as the damage was suffered as a result of recent storms, clubs can apply for funding to carry out repairs that are outstanding, or to cover the cost of work that has already been paid for.”
Only not-for-profit sports clubs can apply for the Storm Damage Fund. Please note that applications to cover any loss of income won’t be eligible for funding.
Even if your club has already been awarded a grant from the Be Active Wales Fund during this financial year you are also able to apply for the Storm Damage Fund.
Applications need to be made online. Sport Wales’ Investment Team are on hand to help anyone seeking guidance and advice. You can email the team at BeActive@Sport.Wales or call them on 0300 3003102, Monday to Friday, between 10:00-12:30 and 13:15-16:00.
