Eight-vehicle crash sparked huge traffic delays on A55 today

Date:

North Wales Police say they were called to reports of the eight-vehicle collision on the A55 near Holywell shortly after 8.15am.

The road was closed for over two hours while emergency services attended, with several ambulance service vehicles in attendance alongside police, according to eye-witnesses.

The road closure caused huge delays of over an hour in the area as the vehicles were recovered and the road was gritted, before being reopened at around 11.30am.

North Wales Police confirmed there were no major injuries following the collision.

The force has since advised motorists to travel with care in the area and “exercise extreme caution.”

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “We were called today at 8.17am to reports of an eight vehicle RTC on the eastbound A55 near Brynford, Holywell, due to foggy weather conditions.

“Officers attended and the road was closed whilst the vehicles were recovered, and Highways gritters treated the road surface.

“The weather in the area continues to be intermittently foggy with glare, and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution and adjust their speed to the prevailing conditions when driving over the top of Rhuallt hill.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were approached for comments.
