Clara Evans sets new Welsh half-marathon record

Date:

Clara Evans set a new Welsh record of one hour and nine minutes at the Valencia half-marathon on Sunday.

Evans, of the Pontypridd Roadents club, broke the previous mark of one hour, nine minutes and 41 seconds set by Charlotte Arter in 2019.

The time was good enough to secure 14th place for Evans, who was a late addition to the Team GB squad at this year’s Olympics.

She finished 46th in the marathon in Paris having set a Welsh marathon record of two hours, 25 minutes and four seconds – also in Valencia – last December.

Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha broke the men’s half-marathon world record at the Valencia event this weekend, finishing in 57 minutes and 30 seconds.
