Carmarthenshire Business Ball Raises Over £11,000 for Local Family Support Services

Date:

The Carmarthenshire Action Squad, set up to help families in the county supported by Action for Children, has raised £11,046 through a charity ball held at the Parc y Scarlets stadium in Llanelli.

Inspired by the work the charity does and high child poverty rates in the county, Kirsty Williams (Kirsty Williams Mortgage Solutions) and Sarah Maclean (Sarah Maclean Mortgages) put on the prestigious Llanelli black tie ball after a successful inaugural event last year, as part of their drive to give back to the Carmarthenshire community.

Over 170 guests enjoyed dinner, auctions, a raffle and dancing the night away to local soul band, Gimme Some Lovin.

The squad said:

‘It was another brilliant night at Parc y Scarlets with 170 members of our business community coming together to have fun, party and make a real difference to families in our community, as well as raise vital awareness of the great work that Action for Children do.

‘As mothers and businesswomen, we’re supporting Action for Children who help protect children and offer support to families across Carmarthenshire. We’ve raised nearly £25,000 for the charity since we started and for us, this is only the beginning. We’ve seen the difference the money makes with the array of trips and activities that families love and appreciate and we want to keep giving back and help as much as we can. Roll on next year. We are going all out for Halloween.’

Sue Marsden, Practice Team leader at Action for Children’s Carmarthenshire family support services, added:

‘Our whole team were thrilled to be invited back for the second ball in our honour. We had another great night and we’re deeply grateful for the money raised for families we proudly support in the area.

‘We were able to show how the money from last year was spent with many activities and trips including a day out at Tenby Dinosaur Park and we’d like to say a huge thank you to Kirsty and Sarah, for their continuing support and amazing effort putting this event on. It’s hugely appreciated by all our staff and Carmarthenshire families supported by Action for Children.’

Nina Rice, Interim Senior Stewardship and Engagement Manager at Action for Children, said:

‘Action Squads are a great way to raise money for those in our communities who need it most and Kirsty and Sarah have gone above and beyond in terms of their determination and drive to put events like this on. They have worked relentlessly put on a magical night of fundraising, music and dancing and surpassed all expectations. This Action Squad deserve huge congratulations and our gratitude for everything they’ve done.’
