Belfast date for Wrexham’s Luke in British and Irish international race

Luke Northall, of Wrexham AAC, represented Wales at the British and Irish masters cross-country international in Belfast.

Competing in the M35 class, Northall clocked 29.25 to finish 73rd.

Club athletes of all ages headed to Newtown to compete in the Welsh inter-region cross-country championships.

Bethan Roberts (13th in 9.51) and Grace Hughes (14th in 9.53) ran in the U13 girls’ race, while Evie Hughes (15.06) was 21st in the U15 girls’ event.

A trio of Wrexham AAC members were in action in the U15 boys’ section and they were Harry Simcock (27th in 13.37), Noah Thomas (34th in 13.56) and Jack Collings (48th in 15.28).

Erin Smith (21.21) was 22nd in the U17 women’s class, Amanda Bailey (27.18) took 11th spot in the W45 event and James Roberts (30.41) was fifth in the senior men’s race.

Wrexham AAC’s contingent in the M35 race was spear-headed by seventh-placed Joel Gomes (32.43), followed by Ally Hughes (25th in 34.30) and Gareth Chaloner (34th in 35.54), while Robert Miles (35.15) was the 14th M45.

Amanda Bailey tackled the Anglesey trail 10k, finishing in 51.22 to take 21st spot and the first W50 placement.

Wrexham’s quartet at the Conwy half-marathon was led by James Nicholls (10th in 77.18) and he was followed by Andrew Jones (97th in 88.20), Tony Forster (342nd in 98.49) and Karl Moore (1,765th in 128.53).

Max Dowell (1-24.43) was the leading Deestrider at Conwy, while there were personal bests for clubmates Ryan Johnson-Wilcox (1-30.01), first V55 Angela Deeley (1-32.29), Graeme Parton (1-43.11), Ally Morrison (2-05.36), Andy Wainwright (2-05.40), Claire Harper (2-08.20), Amanda Scotter (2-08.20), Ann-marie Fauset (2-13.11), Alannah O’Brien (2-19.45), Gilly Mayes (2-28.41), Corinne Wardle (2-28.41), Elaine Thomson (2-28.42) and Vikki Foulkes (3-17.13).

Abby Thurland ran a fine personal best of 2-20.06 at the Alton Towers half marathon.

Deestrider Anthony Barron completed the 37-mile Wirral Winter Ultra in an impressive 5-23.06, coming 18th overall and the second V50.

Christine Cammillare (1-52.11) was the leading Deestrider at the Penmaenmawr fell race, followed by Debbie Parry (2-56.25) and Jane Blackwell (2-56.41).

Also at the event were Wrexham’s Linda Jones (116th in 2-04.01) and Charles Ashley (171st in 2-56.44).

There was a triumph for a Wrexham AAC athlete during the most recent Erddig parkrun.

Daniel Weston crossed the line first in a time of 17.28.

He was followed by clubmates Michael Jones (10th in 22.31), Jonathan Davies (28th in 24.40), Peter Sussex (49th in 27.07), Macey Quick (82nd in 30.12), Philip Walker (87th in 30.21), Jennifer Moss (125th in 33.03), Lucy Morris (166th in 39.28) and John Tipping (189th in 56.12).

Competing in Llangollen were Glyn Wise (fifth in 20.36) and Stephen Walker (129th in 49.27), while Steve Jones (sixth in 20.46) was the leading Wrexham racer at Ruthin.

He was followed by Richard Westwood (eighth in 21.05) and Anna Moccia (31st in 25.23).

Tony Forster clocked 21.20 for 10th place at Burnage, while Tomos Marriott (53rd in 28.48) competed at Newborough.
