Anglesey County Council’s Adult Services continues to make improvements to social services, according to a newly published report by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW).
CIW undertook a scheduled assessment of the County Council’s Adults Services in June 2024.
The aim was to review performance, with inspectors highlighting good progress in several areas.
Some of the positives that were highlighted included:
- a strong leadership team, who have instigated and implemented positive changes
- a supportive culture within the service, described as healthy and positive, with an open-door policy consistently promoted
- an increased stability in staff teams, resulting in an improved and timelier service for people
- waiting lists for social work assessments significantly reduced
- an improvement in general communication, with 89% of people surveyed answering they were listened to at all, or most of the time
- 96.5% of respondents stated they were treated with dignity at all or most of the time
- the service has expanded on resources to promote the option of direct payments which is positive practice
- the county council has made significant capital investments improving the range and availability of care and support services
- waiting lists for domiciliary support services have reduced significantly
- practice in adult safeguarding has improved
Anglesey’s Director of Social Services, Fôn Roberts, has welcomed a ‘positive report’ on services provided, he said:
“Naturally we are very pleased to have received such a positive report by Care Inspectorate Wales. Despite on-going pressures within the care sector, our workforce continues to go above and beyond in their duties to ensure that the best possible service and care is provided.”
“The inspectors recognised Anglesey’s clear strategic direction and the progress we’re continuing to make. The report highlights many areas of good practice, which is fantastic news and gives us confidence moving forward as we strive to continuously improve.”
Adults’ Services (Social Services) portfolio holder, Councillor Alun Roberts, added:
“We are very pleased to have received such a positive report. It reflects and acknowledges the effort the county council, its workforce and service users have made to make such significant progress and improvements.”
“This report underlines our commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals within our community, providing compassionate care and support to residents in their homes and in extra care housing across the Island.”
“We will continue to look at areas for improvement and work with CIW as it reviews our ongoing performance.”
