General entries into the ABP Newport Marathon and Half Marathon are now sold out as thousands get set to take to the city’s streets.
Enthusiastic runners have snapped up all the spaces into both the races on Sunday 13 April.
The Newport Marathon and Half Marathon are part of the ABP Newport Marathon Festival which also features a 10K distance and a mile race for the whole family to enjoy.
The only way people can now get involved in the event is through one of the official charities (which still have spaces in the marathon and half) or by taking on the 10K and Mile distances. Teams can still also enter as a group as part of the Business Challenge.
The 26.2-mile race has become increasingly popular over the years due to its flat and fast course.
Over 70% of all finishers have claimed a PB on the route that has been named in a list of 10 of the fastest marathons in the world by Runners World.
Taking in iconic sights like the city’s Transporter Bridge and the stunning scenery of the Gwent Levels, there’s a mixture of cityscape and wildlife to enjoy around the route.
The Half Marathon distance was introduced to the event for the first time last year and, as the sell-out shows, is set to become a popular new fixture in the Run 4 Wales calendar.
Matt Newman, Chief Executive at event organisers Run 4 Wales, said; “The ABP Newport Marathon Festival has grown from strength to strength over the past few years and we’re delighted that so many people are challenging themselves to take on the 26.2-mile and 13.1-mile distances in April.
“The flat course is famed for helping runners secure a marathon PB and we’re hoping even more people will achieve their fastest time in the 2025 edition of the race.”
Although general entries are now full, those who still want to take on the marathon and half marathon distances can do so by running for the event’s official charities including lead charity, Mind and Mind in Gwent.
Entries are also still available for those keen to take part in the 10K and mile races, however all early bird entries into the 10K race have now also gone.
