Met Office issues yellow weather warning for North Wales as more ice expected

Date:

The latest yellow weather warning issued by the Met Office will be in place from 5pm on Tuesday (January 7) until 12pm on Wednesday (January 8).

The warning will cover most of North Wales including Denbighshire, Conwy, Flintshire, Gwynedd, and Wrexham.

This new Met Office alert continues several days of yellow and amber weather warnings in North Wales caused by snow, ice and freezing rain.

What to expect from the yellow weather warning in North Wales

The Met Office said the latest yellow weather warning was issued for parts of North Wales due to “icy stretches” which could have an impact on transport in the area.

The ice associated with the yellow weather warning is also set to cause:

  • Icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

A Met Office spokesperson added: “Afternoon and evening showers will slowly ease back to coasts Irish Sea coasts, allowing ice to form on untreated surfaces inland.

“Showers will be a wintry mix, with 1-2cm accumulating on ground above about 200 m before they begin to ease.”

How to prepare for the yellow weather warning in North Wales

The Met Office has issued advice on how to prepare for the yellow weather warning and the risks it poses.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.

“If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
