voco St David’s Cardiff Reflects on Milestone Year Following Successful Christmas Period

Date:

voco St David’s Cardiff ended 2024 on a high note, thanks to a successful Christmas period that capped a landmark year for the five-star hotel celebrating its 25th anniversary.

During its milestone year, the iconic Cardiff Bay hotel has continued to solidify its reputation as a leader in Welsh hospitality, welcoming over 153,000 guests.

At the start of the year, the hotel unveiled the newly refurbished Tiger Bay Floor following a £650,000 investment. Drawing inspiration from the cultural heritage of Tiger Bay, the redesign blends contemporary elegance with sustainability, featuring CO2-absorbing paint and recycled materials. The refurbishment is part of a multi-million-pound upgrade that this year also included significant enhancements to the hotel’s spa, gym, and meeting facilities.

The hotel’s efforts have been recognised with multiple accolades, including being named Wales’ Best MICE Hotel at the World MICE Awards, retaining Visit Wales’ five-star grading and receiving the Visit Wales Welcome Award for its outstanding service to the TV and film industry.

During 2024, voco St David’s Cardiff reinforced its dedication to sustainability with a series of impactful initiatives. The hotel introduced CO2-absorbing paint in its refurbished rooms and eliminated single-use plastics by providing reusable glass water bottles, saving over 300 bottles per room annually. Enhanced energy-efficient systems, including aerated showerheads and variable speed drives for air handling units, contributed to a 5% reduction in energy usage and a 2% drop in water consumption per room compared to the previous year. Additionally, six electric vehicle charging points were installed, and partnerships with organisations like Stump Up for Trees helped extend the hotel’s environmental efforts beyond its walls.

Community engagement was a cornerstone of the hotel’s activities in 2024, with the hotel raising £4,900 for charity partners including Cardiff Dogs Home, Stump Up for Trees, Head Above the Waves, and Action Against Hunger. During the annual Giving for Good Month, the hotel’s staff organised a charity bike ride, hosted service users of The Wallich Foundation for a buffet and participated in biodiversity initiatives, including a litter pick at Cardiff Wetlands Nature Reserve and coppicing projects to enhance local green spaces. Partnerships with Welsh suppliers like Fabulous Welshcakes and Tiny Rebel, as well as support of local events, like Pride Cymru and the Cardiff Bay 10k, underscored the hotel’s commitment to making a meaningful impact in its community.

“2024 has been a remarkable year for voco St David’s Cardiff, marking 25 years of delivering exceptional experiences to our guests,” said Konstantin Grimm, General Manager.

“Our investments this year have elevated the guest experience while showcasing our commitment to sustainability. Ending the year with a vibrant and busy Christmas period, we’re thrilled to have shared so many memorable moments with our guests and showed our support to our local community. We’re excited for what lies ahead as we continue to innovate and uphold our legacy of excellence.”

Located in the heart of Cardiff Bay, voco St David’s Cardiff is the capital’s only five-star hotel, offering 142 rooms and suites with views of the waterfront. Known for its distinctive sail-like architecture, the hotel features the award-winning Tir a Môr restaurant, a luxurious spa, and versatile meeting and event spaces, making it a premier destination for leisure, dining, and business.
