The commercial director of south Wales based SECUREIT, Mike Gahan, has successfully completed a demanding international charity cycling challenge, raising over £3,000 for Cancer Research Wales – the Welsh cancer research charity.
The challenge saw Mike embark on a seven-day expedition along Thailand’s coast, cycling nearly 500 miles in the country’s intense heat and humidity.
Starting in Bangkok on November 9th, Mike pedalled approximately 100 kilometres (62 miles) each day, concluding his remarkable journey on the idyllic island of Koh Samui. Cycling for up to eight hours each day, the expedition not only tested his physical endurance but also showcased his commitment to supporting vital cancer research efforts.
“I’ve always been passionate about taking on challenges that make a real difference, and this experience was as rewarding as it was tough,” said Mike. “Knowing the funds raised will contribute to the groundbreaking work of Cancer Research Wales kept me motivated throughout the many tough miles of the journey.”
A cheque from Mike for over £3,000 has now been presented to Cancer Research Wales at the charity’s head office in Cardiff. The funds will go towards supporting innovative research and improving cancer treatment outcomes for patients in Wales.

Mike’s family, friends and colleagues at SECUREIT in Brynmenyn near Bridgend, have rallied behind his fundraising campaign, contributing significantly to its success. Now safely back home in Llanhenock near Newport, Mike was reassured to hear that the funds he has raised will help fund important activities such as clinical studies, laboratory analysis and commissioning ongoing PHD research.
