The emotional symbolism behind the Princess of Wales’s Remembrance Day jewellery

Date:

The following year, Catherine began wearing the Bahrain pearl drop earrings. They have taken on particular resonance during the 2020s, when the Princess has worn them to the funerals of both Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, a symbol which recalls not only their long partnership but now Catherine as a central figure of the Royal family’s future.

Just as she did for this year’s Trooping the Colour, the Princess chose to upcycle an existing piece from her wardrobe for her appearance at the Cenotaph rather than debuting anything new – continuing the theme of Prince William’s visit to South Africa this week, where he wore a selection of sustainable and vintage items. She added a striking velvet bow necktie to a military-style Catherine Walker and co. coat previously worn in 2020 and in 2022, during the period of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.

She finished the look with a veiled hat by Juliette Millinery and the regimental brooch of 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards, of which she is Colonel-in-Chief.

Polished, regal and laced with emotion, the Princess’s Remembrance style choices were a reminder that she is as skilled as ever at dressing not only to impress, but with genuine meaning, too.
