WSA team up with partners Sport:80 and ActiveXChange to host Collaborating Tech and Collaborating Sports event

The Welsh Sports Association (WSA) was delighted to be joined by partners Sport:80 and ActiveXChange to host fascinating discussions around sport technology and the future of our sector in this space.

On Wednesday 16 October, Sport:80 Chief Operating Officer Jonny Turner and ActiveXChange General Manager Ben Jones joined the WSA and a handful of its members at the Sport Wales National Centre.

Discussions centred around how technology can help sporting bodies unlock innovative opportunities to help maximise organisational capacity, boost financial revenue, and ensure the sector is a safe place for all to enjoy.

We were also joined by WSA member Welsh Gymnastics CEO, Victoria Ward, who joined our panel to discuss her organisation’s collaboration with Sport:80 and how it has supported Welsh Gymnastics to simplify its processes and improve efficiency.

A key part of the session also focused on the ongoing pilot project work with ActiveXChange and Sport:80, highlighting how digital transformation has the ability to reshape the sports sector in Wales.

Hoci Cymru, Netball Wales and Welsh Gymnastics are three WSA members working alongside our partners on this pilot project. We take pride in convening and driving these impactful partnerships in Wales.

Ben Jones commented:

“It was great to be hosted by the WSA at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff, catching up with existing customers and meeting a range of other organisations to spend some time discussing the role of technology in sports development.

“Alongside our partners at Sport:80, we were happy to share how sports tech can make things better by simplifying processes and driving efficiencies, informing strategic and developmental priorities, unlocking social and commercial value, and proving impact.

“For those on the day who expressed an interest in finding out how ActiveXChange can support you, and to those who were unable to make it, drop me a line at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.”

Jonny Turner added:

“We were really pleased to be invited to join the WSA and our partners Active Xchange in delivering what we hope was a valuable discussion around the role technology is playing within our sector.

“Events such as this are a unique opportunity to encourage in-person collaboration and knowledge share. As we continue to grow our community we’d love to engage with more Welsh sports, to help drive efficiency, build economies of scale, and ultimately create opportunity for commercial gain across the entire Welsh sporting landscape.

“We are looking forward to delivering more of this type of event as we look towards 2025 and beyond. Should anyone have any questions following the event, or would like to find out more about Sport:80, please reach out to me at [email protected]

Tom Sharp, Commercial Manager at the WSA commented:

“At the WSA we’re very eager to support our membership and provide meaningful partnerships to add value, reduce costs and improve efficiencies. The primary focus for last week’s session was that of tech collaboration, to offer support and solutions to the WSA membership, as well as to highlight the ongoing commercial pilot project being undertaken in Wales – very exciting opportunity for the sector.

“The WSA take pride in convening and driving these impactful partnerships in Wales and will look to schedule in a number of sport and tech collaborations moving forward. If colleagues would like any additional information from the event, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
