Caerphilly Council Seeks Community Groups to Run Buildings and Assets

Date:

Community groups and residents are being asked if they would like to manage a community asset.

Caerphilly Council’s Community Asset Transfer policy – ‘CAT’ – provides an opportunity for assets such as buildings, land or facilities to be transferred to individuals, community groups or clubs to run.

The council says it has three opportunities that are open to expressions of interest.

  • Hafod Deg: Located at 55 High Street, Rhymney, this two-storey building is ready to be transformed into a community hub.
  • Tredegar Park Toilets: Situated on Tredegar Street, Risca, this single-storey building offers a chance to improve and maintain a vital public facility.
  • Land at Dan-y-Graig: This land in Risca presents an opportunity for community groups to develop a project that will benefit and enrich the local area.

Cabinet Member with responsibility for Property, Cllr Nigel George said:

“We have some fantastic community groups across our county, and I feel strongly that we can work together to provide opportunities to run buildings and facilities to empower their growth and long-term success.

“We intend to bring more opportunities to the market and ask those who may be interested to discuss this with a skilled and dedicated team of professionals who can support individuals and groups through the application process and beyond. I would urge residents to get in touch with the team and find out more about.”

Interested community groups and or clubs are asked to submit the expression of interest form by October 30.

Proposals should outline the vision for the asset, demonstrate community involvement, and include a sustainability plan. Additionally, a commitment to manage and maintain the asset is essential.

You can find more information about the individual projects here;

The council said it was committed to providing comprehensive support throughout the application and development process.
