Davoren brings Wales to the World

Conductor Tom Davoren has been honoured by his former alma mater in furthering Welsh culture to the world.

The respected brass band composer and conductor Dr. Tom Davoren, Assistant Professor and Director of Bands & Instrumental Music at Benedictine College Music Department in Kansas, USA has been honoured by Cardiff University with a prestigious ‘Wales to the World’ award

Significant contribution

It forms part of its larger 2024 Awards recognising the significant contribution made by 30 former alumni in their field of expertise to furthering Welsh culture throughout the world around the age of 30.

Awards are made in respect to Social Impact, Health and Wellbeing, Entrepreneurship, Environmental Activism, Equity Advocacy, Innovation, Journalism and Media, and Wales to the World.

The award acknowledged his impact a composer, conductor and teacher, with reference to his recent award of a PhD from the University of Kansas, his global links to both wind and brass bands, the impact and profile of his work ‘Legacy’ honouring the 70th anniversary of the NHS.

Deeply honoured

Speaking to 4BR he said: “I’m deeply honoured receive this award, especially as it originates in Wales. I am a passionate believer in all the good that music — and brass band music in particular- brings into people lives so to have that acknowledged means such a great deal.”
