YMCA Cardiff Launches Construction on Innovative 18-Bed Apartment Complex at Bedford Place

Date:

YMCA Cardiff is proud to announce that construction on the Bedford Place project, an innovative 18-bed apartment complex, is progressing well since breaking ground last year.

This vital development, scheduled for completion in January 2025, is designed to provide safe and secure housing, along with holistic care and support, for vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness in Cardiff. The urgency of this project is underscored by the ongoing housing crisis in the city, with the waiting list for these apartments already filled.

Key features of the Bedford Place development include:

  1. Modern, Safe, and Supportive Environment: Each apartment is designed to offer a comfortable, psychologically informed and nurturing space for residents, ensuring they have a stable base from which to rebuild their lives.
  2. Comprehensive On-site Support Services: Our dedicated team will provide tailored support, including life skills training, and access to education and employment opportunities, helping young people develop the tools they need to succeed.
  3. Community Integration: Located strategically to encourage positive interactions with local businesses and the wider community, the complex aims to foster social integration and reduce the stigma often associated with homelessness.
  4. Sustainability at the Core: The development will incorporate eco-friendly technologies to minimise its carbon footprint, reflecting YMCA Cardiff’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

As the completion of Bedford Place draws closer, YMCA Cardiff calls on the support of local businesses to help finish this vital project. They are specifically seeking funding for the furnishing of the development, which will enable them to complete the project and create a warm and welcoming environment for residents. By supporting this project, businesses can meet their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets, positioning themselves as leaders in social value and commitment to positive change.

Andrew Templeton, CEO of YMCA Cardiff Group, shared his thoughts on the project’s progress:

“This is more than just a building; it is a symbol of hope and collective effort. By providing a stable and nurturing environment, we empower young individuals to overcome adversity and reach their full potential. We are grateful for the support of our funders, Welsh Government, and The Hodge Foundation, as well as our partnership with the Cardiff YMCA (1910) Trust, all of whom have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. As we approach the completion of this modern, sustainable apartment complex, we look forward to the profound impact it will have on young people at risk of homelessness in Cardiff.”
