Sea Cadets Plan to Set Up New Unit in Caernarfon

The Sea Cadets in North Wales are gathering support to set up a new unit in Caernarfon.

They have been raising awareness of who they are and what they do over the summer months and aim to hold a public meeting in the autumn to drive the plan forward.

The awareness raising campaign included a visit by the Sea Cadet off-shore training vessel the TS John Jerwood to Caernarfon Harbour. The Sea Cadets publicity trailer staffed by cadets and adult volunteers from the North Wales Sea Cadets District was set up in the harbour to coincide with the vessel’s visit.

Cadets and their trailer were also in the harbour during the three-day Offshore Circuit Racing Drivers Association (OCDRA) Power Boat Race event.

Commander Charles Bagot Jewitt DL, Area Officer, Sea Cadets North West said:

“There are a number of very successful Sea Cadet Corps units in North Wales already but we spotted there was a gap in Caernarfon and an opportunity to work with the substantial sailing community around the Menai strait.”

“We are delighted with the support we have already received from many organisations in the area and now just need any young people interested in joining and any adults interested in volunteering to continue registering their interest with us.”
