“As a teenager at Marlborough College, Kate discovered a lump on the left side of her head, just under her hairline,” Jobson writes. “The school notified her parents immediately, and her mother, Carole, took her to the hospital where doctors performed surgery to remove the lump.”
The surgery left Kate with a three-inch scar, which was first noticed during her initial solo engagement in 2001. Buckingham Palace later issued a statement explaining, “The scar is related to a childhood operation.”
Kate Middleton’s Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
In a more recent health battle, Kate was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year following planned abdominal surgery. Despite initial hopes that her condition was not cancerous, she has since been undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In a heartfelt message shared in March, Kate expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she received: “I have been blown away by the thousands of kind messages from across the globe.”
Kate’s statement highlighted the challenges of her treatment: “I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak and tired and must give in to your body’s need for rest. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”

I look forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but I know I am not out of the woods yet.”Kate’s journey has been marked by resilience and gratitude. She acknowledged the support from the public and its impact on her and Prince William: “It has made a world of difference to William and me, helping us through some of the harder times.”
