New data suggests that Abersoch on the Llyn Peninsula is the most popular place to go on staycation in North Wales this summer.

Abersoch has also been named the most searched for destination in Wales overall for a staycation by the holiday letting agency holidaycottages.co.uk – followed by Tenby and Saundersfoot.

Based on bookings, other holiday hot spots in North Wales proving a hit for those going on staycation with the agency during the peak summer season include Aberdyfi in second place, The Llyn Peninsular more broadly in third, Anglesey in fourth, followed by the Conwy Valley in fifth position.

And as local tourism businesses ready themselves for the busiest time of the year, the agency has also revealed the most popular two weeks for bookings in North Wales this summer according to its latest data, with a spike for holidaymakers visiting the region looking set to be between Friday 2 August and Friday 16 August.

Gareth Mahoney, Regional Director for Wales at holidaycottages.co.uk, said:

“With year-on-year bookings up by 5% this summer, it’s great to see Gogledd Cymru (North Wales) proving such a popular region to visit to help bolster the local economy. Abersoch is a fantastic destination and makes for the perfect location to make memories with friends and family.

“Looking at trends for summer staycations more broadly in North Wales, last-minute bookings have been strong – for example, we’ve recently seen a spike for properties located near Dolgellau in Gwynedd. Other areas emerging with an uplift in searches across North Wales included Aberdaron and Abergele.

“But it’s not just week-long stays that are proving popular in North Wales; short break bookings are also above average for this time of year, and we attribute this being down to the accessibility of the region to larger conurbations such as Manchester, Liverpool and the North Midlands.”

On average, in North Wales, a family of four can expect to pay £876 for a week’s stay in August based on current availability, according to the agency.
