Following her election as the new MP for Ynys Môn, Llinos Medi has relinquished her role as Leader of Anglesey Council.
The council’s ruling group – led by Plaid Cymru – will now begin a process to select a new Council Leader. Members of the Full Council will then vote to endorse the new Leader.
Deputy Council Leaders Councillors Gary Pritchard and Robin Williams will assume Llinos Medi’s previous responsibilities as Leader in the interim.
Anglesey Council Chief Executive Dylan J Williams said,
“I want to congratulate Llinos Medi and wish her all the best following her success in the General Election last Thursday.
“Llinos Medi played a key part as Council Leader over the last seven years – leading the council, its Executive and Coalition. During this period, the performance of the council, as well as its good name, has improved.
“The council values have been prominent and clear in Llinos’ every day work – respect, collaboration, honesty and promoting the council and the Island. On a personal level, I could not have asked for more.
“While it is a new period for the county council with new political leadership our day-to-day work of providing the best possible services across Anglesey continues.
“I look forward to working and strengthening my relationship with the new Leader (once chosen) and of course, with Llinos Medi as the new MP for Ynys Môn.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to wish our outgoing MP, Virginia Crosbie, well for the future.”
