Care Home Creates 100 Jobs

Date:

A new care home in the Vale of Glamorgan has created more than 100 jobs.

Residents have begun moving into Glenburnie Lodge Care Community in Port Road, Wenvoe, following its successful registration with Care Inspectorate Wales.

The opening of the home increases the provision of accommodation for older people in the area, whilst also providing more than 100 jobs in the various roles needed to operate a care home, including caring, housekeeping, gardening, maintenance, catering and activity coordinators.

Glenburnie Lodge, which has been named after the building that used to be on the site of the new home, features 70 fully furnished ensuite rooms, communal lounges, cafe, gym, hair and beauty salon, cinema, and dining rooms.

It offers residential, dementia and 24-hour nursing care delivered by an experienced team.

Managing Director Jacqui Orrells said:

“We are delighted to have been able to welcome our first residents to the home and they are already settling in nicely to their new surroundings. The home has been expertly designed to offer outstanding, luxury care in a comfortable and stylish environment, providing more choice for local people seeking residential care for themselves or their loved ones.

“Together, we will ensure that person centred care is at the heart of everything we do and that we support the wellbeing of people living at Glenburnie, whilst delivering this care in a respectful and dignified manner.”

Among the guests of honour at the home’s official opening will be the winner of a Local Hero competition run by the home to find people who contribute significantly to the local area.

The home has been inundated with nominations and the winner will receive £500, a trophy and flowers.

Jacqui added:

“We wanted to do something special to mark our arrival in the community and the Local Hero award is our way of recognising the magnificent work people do in Wenvoe and the surrounding area, but which can often go unnoticed. We want to recognise and reward the selfless efforts of people without whom the community wouldn’t be the same. We have been delighted with the response to the competition and choosing a winner is going to be very difficult indeed.”
