Keir Starmer: Three Welsh MPs get junior ministerial jobs

Three Welsh MPs have been given junior ministerial jobs in Sir Keir Starmer’s government.

Torfaen’s Nick Thomas-Symonds has been appointed paymaster general, while Cardiff South and Penarth’s Stephen Doughty will be a foreign office minister.

Chris Bryant, MP for Rhondda and Ogmore, will be a minister in the department for science, innovation and technology and the department for culture, media and sport.

The news follows Labour’s victory in the general election last week.

The announcement confirmed that Mr Thomas-Symonds would also be a minister for the Constitution and European Relations in the cabinet office.

Jo Stevens, MP for Cardiff East, was appointed to the cabinet position of Welsh secretary the morning after the result.

Welsh Labour scored nine gains in the general election, all at the expense of the Conservative Party which was left with zero seats in Wales.

The Conservatives also lost seats to Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats.
