Wales creates a ‘great petri dish’ for growing early-stage life sciences companies and could lead the way.
Dr Luke Burke, co-founder and CEO of Swansea-based Corryn Biotechnologies, says he believes that good access to a strong ecosystem of healthcare professionals is a “huge advantage” and means that Welsh healthtech companies can be flexible and agile.
Dr Burke spoke to Business News Wales about securing Welsh Government funding to further develop a handheld medical device which can deposit a layer of microscopic polymer fibres over a wound, creating a dressing using “electrospinning” technology.
Bringing the device through the various clinical trials which will be necessary will lead to “significant job creation”, said Dr Burke. The firm aims to be exporting to the US within two years.
